Brian,
Thanks for stopping by..

This is just the latest salvo in the copyright/trademark infringement follies. As I mentioned in the opening para., this is more properly a trademark infringement, if stretched into lawyer land.

Ford has a long history of loosing the lawyers without checking either with the marketing or management departments.
Back in 1999 I penned these two opinions about Ford.
http://www.lemurzone.com/edit/converse7.htm
http://www.lemurzone.com/edit/converse8.htm

These were Ford's attempt to stifle a hobbyist who had documents show up in his car which he posted. They got their asses handed to them in court.

The most tiring part about mentioning these stories, is the bland sameness of the reaction, and the trumpeting by the social network/pr/blog advisers like Brian Solis, Steve Ruebel, et al. and their oh so wise suggestions(hire Me!!) about the Value of Conversation and a kinder gentler although more expensive middleman arraignment to make your BIG CORP seem like just folk having a beer and sharing love for some weird ass product.

Thank God we were able to drive a stake into Lovemarks.

It looks like Cafe Press didn't even knuckle under. They did a pre-knuckle. FORD had complained, previously, and it was enough to chill somebody at Cafe Press.

The head spins. There has to be something that can be done working along the lines you suggest. Though I suspect FORD will not be embarrassed into seeing the light. And obviously they have the resources to absolutely waste people's time, from afar, through lawyers, almost anonymously.

Personally I think the Black Mustang Club should print as much material as they can and then send FORD an invoice for advertising creative and media placement fees. Quite seriously. And when they don't pay take them to small claims court.
